Land Boat Racing Festival

(Festival / Traditions, Si Satchanalai , Sukhothai)
The tradition of land boat racing is a demonstration of collaboration, unity, and community spirit among the municipality, temple, local community, and school. By revitalizing this tradition, the aim is to preserve and perpetuate the cultural heritage of Si Satchanalai, reflecting the unique local way of life. This event seeks to cultivate a sense of camaraderie, unity, and enjoyment within the community while promoting the distinct cultural identity of the region. It represents a significant cultural legacy that will be cherished and passed down through the generations.

Wat Chaiyasittaram is the birthplace of the Land Boat tradition, an annual event occurring after Buddhist Lent. Local villagers engage in the decoration of boats using materials like coconut leaves or banana stalks, accompanied by songs and dances on the boats, thus upholding their cultural heritage and fostering communal joy for future generations.
