Sukhothai Golden Land

Among the ancient artifacts excavated in the cites of Phra Ruang, there were several objects made of gold, considered a work of art with value and widely recognized.

During some period, these ancient works of art were continually taken out of the area. It was concerned that they would be gone. But with the vision, ability, and consciousness of cherishing for the heritage of Phra Ruang, Mr. Chue Wongyai tried to inherit the wisdom of gold ornaments with an ancient necklace, which was found on the bank of the Yom River. He tried to imitate its pattern for a new gold necklace and he succeeded. This was the beginning of ancient Si Satchanalai gold ornaments which the family members of the Wongyai and people in Thachai Sub-district, Si Satchanalai District, created and passed to later generations. It was inspired by the stucco patterns of historic sites of Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai, combining with the skills of craftsmen of Phra Ruang, especially the coloring which made the golden knitting more beautiful and become a reputation of Sukhothai gold ornaments. Later, products were also made of silver with elaborate and beautiful patterns as the gold and silverware ornament was adapted suitably for people of all ages.
