It is the name of the district in Kamphaengphet with the old community located next to the area of Khiri Mat, Sukhothai Province. In this area, there is Phra Ruang Road, a transportation and canal route. It was believed that Bang Phan mentioned in the stone inscription was located in this district.
The origin of the name of the district is related to the story of Phra Ruang. It was said that when Phra Ruang ruled Sukhothai, he wished to extend the city and build frontiers to protect the major city. He assigned the hunters to find the location of the cities. The group of hunters came to this area and found the rabbit with golden hair. Then they asked Phra Ruang for permission to catch the rabbit.
The hunters tried to catch the rabbit for a long time but they failed. The rabbit often disappeared into the cave which was so small that they could not catch the rabbit. Then, they asked friends and relatives to help. More and more people came to help with their families. It eventually became a large community so far.
