Wat Kon Laeng

The stone and the answers of Sukhothai Historical Park.
The place is not complete and quietly located on the road that is outside the Sukhothai ancient city on the south. The villagers called "Wat Kon Lang" according to the name of the material that was used to make the pagoda. This may not be the focus of tourists, but for archaeologists and people who are interested in historical art issues. So, this temple is considered an intellectual treasure and it is hard to compare with other temples.

This temple has the main pagoda built of laterite. Even though the upper part completely collapses, the rest can represent that is it the Lotus-shaped pagoda. The front of the Grand Viharn, there is a plaster base of a Buddha image surrounding the pagodas 20 units demonstrating it is the large temple. They found two kinds of votive tablets calling Phra Ruang Nang. There are "Phra U Thong Phom Perd" and "Phra U Thong Phom Wian" which are the U-Thong art built during the overlapping period between the early Ayutthaya and the late Sukhothai. Therefore, this temple should have been built during that time.
What we have learned from this temple is we know that Ancient Sukhothai people used the laterite to create architecture before the establishment of Sukhothai, such as the construction of San Ta Pha Daeng and Wat Phra Phai Luang, and continually used until the end of the kingdom which Ayudhya is spreading its influence over this region. Also, it reflects that time when the technicians like to build pagodas in the shape of a Phum Khaobhin or a lotus bud shape.
