One time, the older sister of King Rama IX traveled to temple that is outside of the Sukhothai ancient city wall in the west to visit "Wat Mangkorn" specifically. Because this temple has long been famous that is an ancient temple that has been preserved Sangkhalok (Sukhothai Ceramics) in various parts of the temple.

Wat Mangkorn's name originated from the discovery of the extremely beautiful "Makorn" Sangkhalok ceramic which is used as an architectural ornament in the temple. Makorn is an imaginary animal, and it is the combination of the snake, the crocodile, the lion, the elephant, the goat. They believed that Makorn is a sacred animal and a symbol of water and fertility. Therefore, we can find Makorn artworks from various cultures such as Khmer, Mon, India, Burma, Lanna, and Sukhothai. Sukhothai Makorn is often made from Sangkhalok decorating the railing and the tip of the roof before developing into the part calling "Hang Hong." After that, "Makorn" word was as the constellation and has the zodiac symbol as Makorn once has the head like the goat and the tail like the fish. We called the month that the Makorn overwhelm the sky the most is "Makarakom" (January in English).
In the Sukhothai period, various buildings were decorated with Sangkhalok. This temple found the roof tiles, the roof timbers, the handrail, and the wall.
