Wat Pa Mamuang

The residence of Virtuous King.

In the area of outside the Sukhothai ancient city wall on the west side is the most important area calling "Pa Mamuang" (Mango forest). This name appeared in the Wat Pa Mango's inscription clarified that the origin might be the shady park. Later, in the reign of Phra Maha Thamracha Lithai, His Majesty has a passion for dharma. His Majesty would like to ordain. In 1905 BE, His Majesty ordered to improve the mango forest to be more beautiful. It used for the monastery for the Buddhist Lent of the preceptor as known as Somdej Phra Maha Uthumporn Buppha Maha Swami who came from Na Khon Pan of Mon.

The inscription conveyed that when Phra Maha Thamracha Lithai entering the monkhood, there is a miracle happening. It has the earthquake when he steps his feet on the ground expressing his power of accumulate merit. Nowadays, the Wat Pa Mamuang is a shady historical site. But, there is only the base of the temple. Next to the back is a brick pagoda that located on right side. And, there is a stairway that is going up. Behind the pagoda is a high pillar. People believe that is Sao Hong is a symbol of Wat Mon. It is also believed that the monks in this sect have a respectable practice as well.
