In this Sukhothai city, Wat Si Sawai is the only temple that facing south. The name of this temple may be slightly different from the Khmer word, "Si means prosperity, beauty" and "Sawai means mango" because there are many large mango trees with beautiful shrubs. And with unique art and a Cambodian style, this may be the reason why this temple may face south to the mother city of Khmer culture. That is Lawoe or Lopburi. From the legend of King Pra Ruang is said that Lawoe city is more prosperous than Sukhothai.
The others scholars believed that this might have been a Brahmin-Hindu shrine because they found the evidence as the Vishnu Statue carved out of a slate and the reclining Vishnu lintel which has been exhibited at the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum. Somdet Krom Phraya Damrongrachanupab assumed the name of the temple was derived from the Sanskrit word "Sri Siwaya" meaning "Lord Shiva," The reason why this temple has to be turned to the south is that they believed that the sacred direction of Lord Shiva in the region of the god of wisdom and liberation known as "Thaksin Murti." Local people are rumored that Wat Si Sawai has very fierce giant that has the dignity lower than angels but higher than other spirits. They are responsible for protecting and preserving various locations and unable to leave those places excepting to find others to do this responsibility instead of them.
