Wat Chaisittharam

(Respectable Places of Si Satchanalai)
Wat Chaisittharam, situated in Tambon Tha Chai, Amphoe Si Satchanalai, Sukhothai Province, is a revered temple affiliated with the Mahanikaya sect. Established on August 27, 1958, it was granted the royal charter of the boundary markers on August 25, 1959.

This temple was constructed through collaborative efforts of the local community, under the guidance of Luang Pho Bunnak Sangwaro, the first abbot. This temple serves as a pivotal center for religious activities, almsgiving, Dhamma practice, and the preservation of traditional customs such as the procession of Tak Bat Devo at the End of Buddhist Lent festival. On that day, an estimated 400-500 individuals converge at the temple to partake in acts of merit and offer alms.

The grand sermon hall within the temple grounds was christened Sala Sirindhorn by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who laid the foundation stone in 1991. Noteworthy is the Salak Phat tradition observed at the temple, wherein devotees participating in almsgiving are required to draw lots to randomly select seats for offering food to monks, symbolizing the act of merit-making without specific designation of recipients. This custom is observed biannually in March and June.

Adding to its cultural significance, the temple is the birthplace of the Land Boat tradition, an annual event occurring after Buddhist Lent. Local villagers engage in the decoration of boats using materials like coconut leaves or banana stalks, accompanied by songs and dances on the boats, thus upholding their cultural heritage and fostering communal joy for future generations.
