(Arts & Culture , Si Satchanalai, Sukhothai)
Baan Silapa Silalang Art Gallery is located at Tambon Si Satchanalai, approximately 1 kilometer west of Si Satchanalai Historical Park and opposite the ancient site of Wat Kok Singkharam, offering a tranquil setting for visitors.
Established on January 25, 1996, the Baan Silapa Silalang Art Group, founded by Mr. Anusorn Onlamoon and Mrs. Supree Onlamoon, draws its name from the term "Silalang," signifying "laterite," a type of stone with unique transformative characteristics from a soft subterranean state to hardness upon exposure to environmental elements.
Driven by a passion for the local way of life, independence, freedom, and a penchant for researching and studying creative art and ancient history, the group's objective is to exhibit art in public spaces such as temples, schools, colleges, and universities, and to educate children and youth in the local and nearby areas. Furthermore, they travel to educate children and youth in the local and nearby areas, aiming to provide guidance, ideas, and inspiration for the study of local stories and phenomena such as nature, fields, forests, mountains, rivers, rocks, ancient sites, Sangkhalok pottery, stucco patterns, and ancient pagodas.
The Silapa Silalang Art Group seeks to create artworks that reflect essence, truth, and beauty, conveying knowledge and preserving traditions, culture, and morality as well as to conserve the land of Si Satchanalai and continue the wisdom of ancient sites and the craft of making Sangkhalok pottery, which have been cherished up to the present time.
